The Reality of this World. By Allah Azzawajal

These are some Quranic Ayah’s compiled by one of the great scholars of Islam Imam Ibn Qayem Al-Jawziyah (Rahim Hullah), in which Allah Azzawajal gives us vivid examples to compare the short life of this world with respect to the everlasting akhira (the next life post day of Judgement). Every Muslim should ponder on these words of their Creator and reflect on weather they are living for this world or the next.

“And present to them the example of the life of this world, like rain which We send down from the sky, and the vegetation of the earth mingles with it and it becomes dry remnants, scattered by the winds. And Allah is ever over all things, Perfect in Ability. Wealth and children are adornment of the life of worldly life. But the enduring good deeds are better to your Lord for reward and better for hope.” [Kahf: 45-46]

“And they rejoice in the wordly life, while wordly life is not, compared to the Hereafter, except (brief) enjoyment.” [Ar-Ra’ad: 26]

“Indeed, those who do not expect the meeting with Us and are satisfied with the life of this world and feel secure therein and those who are heedless of Our signs – For those their refuge will be the Fire because of what they used to earn” [Yunus:7-8]

“While the Heareafter is better and more enduring” [al-‘Aala:17]

“The example of wordly life is but like rain which We have send down from the sky that the plants aof the earth absorb – from which men and livestock eat – until, when the earth takes on its adornment and is beautified and its people suppose that they have capability over it, there comes to it Out command by night or by day, and We make it as a harvest, as if it had not flourished yesterday. Thus do We explain in detail the signs for a people who give thought. And Allah invites to the Home of Peace [Paradise] and guides whom He wills to a straight path.” [Yunus:24-25]

“Know that the life of this world is but an amusement and diversion and adornment and boasting to one another and competition in increase of wealth and children – like the example of a rain whose plant growth pleases the tillers; then it dries and you see it turned yellow; then it becomes debris. And in the Hereafter is severe punishment and forgiveness from Allah and approval. And what is the wordly life except the enjoyment of delusion.” [al-Hadeed:20]

“O you who have believed, what is [the matter] with you that, when you are told to go forth in the cause of Allah (for battle), you adhere heavily to the earth? Are you satisfied with the life of this world rather than the Hereafter? But what is the enjoyment of wordly life compared to the Hereafter except a little.” [at-Tawbah:38]

“Beautified for people is the love of that which they desire – of women and sons, heaped-up sums of gold and silver, fine branded horses, and cattle and tilled land. That is the enjoyment of wordly life, but Allah has with Him the best return [Paradise]. Say, “Shall I inform you of [something] better than that? For those who fear Allah will be gardens in the the presence of their Lord beneath which rivers flow, wherein they abide eternally, and purified spouses and approval from Allah. And Allah is Seeing of [His] servants. [al-Imran: 14-15]

“Then have you considered if We gave them enjoyment for years. And then there came to them that which they were promised?” [ash-Shu’ar’a: 205-207]

“And on the Day when He will gather them, [it will be] as if they had not remained [in the world] but an hour of the day, they will know each other” [Yunus: 45]

“It will be – on the Day they see that which they are promised – as though they had not remained [ in the world] except an hour of a day. [This is] notification. And will [any] be destroyed except the defiantly disobedient people? [al-Ashqaf: 35]

“They ask you, [O Muhammad], about the Hour: when is its arrival? In what [position] are you that you should mention it? To your Lord is its finality. You are only a warner for those who fear it. It will be, on the Day they see it, as though they had not remained [in the world] except for an afternoon or a morning thereof” [an-Naze’at: 42-46]

“And the Day the Hour appears the criminals will sear they had remained but an hour” [ar-Rum: 55]

“[Allah] will say, “How long did you remain on earth in number of years? They will say, “We remained a day or part of a day; ask those who enumerate. He will say, “You stayed not a but a little – if only you had known” [al-Mu’aminoun:112-114]

“The Day the Horn will be blown. And We will gather the criminals, that Day, blue-eyed. They will murmur among themselves, “You remained not but ten [days in the world]. We are most knowing of what they say when the best of them in manner will say, “You remained not but one day”” [Taha:102-104]
